Voice of the Mirror: Easing of lockdowns around UK is moment for caution and celebration
Today we begin to throw off the shackles of Covid-19 as businesses reopen their doors.
With vaccinations keeping infections in check, Step 2 of the roadmap out of lockdown can be rolled out.
Non-essential shops, hairdressers, pub beer gardens and others hope for millions of eager customers.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “Today is a major step forward in our roadmap to freedom.”
UK Hospitality chief Kate Nicholls said: “Go out and enjoy it!”

The easing of lockdowns around the UK is a moment for caution and celebration.
England takes a big step today when most shops, hairdressers, nail bars, gyms, pools, libraries and zoos reopen while cafes, pubs and restaurants serve customers outdoors.
Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland tip-toe back at their own pace but all four parts of the UK are eager to be back in business.
With infections, hospital admissions and deaths falling sharply as a result of the successful NHS mass vaccination programme, we can slowly resume doing what we enjoy.
Individually we need to be on our guard but the PM and his Cabinet must continue to hammer home the stay safe message and be prepared to act if a third wave is building.
The cold weather will mean hardy pub and restaurant-goers will have to wrap up warm but we can all raise a glass to hope.
