Voice of the Mirror: Boris Johnson is treating people of the North with contempt
Downing Street dictator
People across the North of England will rightly be wondering this morning what the Government is playing at.
If you plan to limit the freedoms of 10 million citizens you do not drip feed information, ignore local concerns and freeze out local political leaders as Boris Johnson has done.
He is poised to order stricter lockdowns in several cities across the North and the Midlands that will have serious consequences for people’s lives, livelihoods and wellbeing.
It is unclear where these measures will be enforced, what they will involve, what support businesses will get and how long they will last.
Instead of working with the Metro Mayors of Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield, the PM is imposing these restrictions by diktat.
For lockdowns to work the Government must give clear instructions, be transparent and treat every area fairly. Otherwise you risk losing public consent.
Mr Johnson is treating the North with contempt. So much for his promise to level up all parts of Britain. Instead he is sowing distrust and division with his haughty actions.
Donald Trump is not just a liar, a braggart and a bully. He’s also a coward.
The US President has chickened out of the next TV debate with Joe Biden after the organisers insisted it be conducted virtually.
Given that Trump could still be infectious, it would have been irresponsible to have done otherwise. But the Toddler-in-Chief, who claims the format would let the moderator cut him off, has thrown his toys out of the pram.
Rather than defend his lamentable record he prefers to hurl insults and intimidate his opponents. Voters should press the mute button on him once and for all next month.
Would you Adam and Eve it? Language experts say Prince George’s accent has a hint of Mockney.
Let’s hope he doesn’t speak like that in front of the Baked Bean or he’ll be in Barney Rubble.
