Three police officers injured in crash after knifeman robs cash box at Morrisons
Three officers have been taken to hospital after a police car crashed responding to an armed robbery at a Morrisons in Liverpool.
Merseyside Police officers were called to the supermarket to reports of a man armed with a knife had stolen a cash box from a security guard.
While responding to the incident, a marked Peugeot 308 police car collided with a BMW.
Pictures show a damaged patrol car on a bank close to the supermarket in Belle Vale, in the city’s southeast.
Merseyside Police said the officers were en route to the incident when the patrol car crashed, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The force said the officers were taken to hospital as a precaution.
It added that no arrests had been made so far, as of early Thursday afternoon.
A witness to the morning’s crash said they had a close call.
The driver told the Echo a police car crossed in front of the path of their car and if they hadn’t slowed down at the junction, it would have crashed into their car.
The North West Ambulance Service said five people were assessed by paramedics at the scene but there’s not thought at this stage to be any serious injuries.
However, at least two people were taken to hospital by ambulance for further assessment.
