Summer appears reluctant to bid farewell, with temperatures forecast to edge up further on Tuesday, remaining firmly in the high 30s inland, 4 to 5 degrees Celsius above average for the time of year.

Compounding the discomfort will be dust in the atmosphere. Met office director Kleanthis Nicolaides told CyBC on Monday that dust levels are expected to be at yellow (moderate) levels, but indicated it would be prudent to monitor it.

In its forecast for Tuesday, the met office said that temperature will rise to 38C inland, around 33C on the south and east coasts, 31C on the remaining coasts and 28C in the higher Troodos mountains. It said temperatures are expected to edge down starting from Thursday, but will remain above average.

The highest temperatures recorded at 3 pm on Monday at Nicosia were 36C, at Larnaca Airport 33C, in Limassol 31C, at Paphos Airport 30C, at Frenaros 35C, in Prodromos 26C and at Polis Chrysochous 29C. Humidity ranged from 13 per cent in Nicosia to 66 per cent in Polis Chrysochous.
