Staff at Chanel broke Covid rules to throw Christmas do in Harrods and 15 ‘caught virus’

Leaning all over each other Chanel staff enjoy a Covid rule-busting Christmas party set up by bosses.

The posh fashion house threw the boozy bash for up to 30 workers in London’s swanky Harrods store.

An insider said 15 employees caught Covid in the aftermath of the party, and some were hospitalised.

Videos and pictures obtained by The Mirror show maskless revellers partying into the early hours of December 19.

It took place when London and the South East were in Tier three, meaning there should have been no mixing of households indoors, apart from support bubbles.

Harrods’ security ended the party once they became aware of it.

Our source said Chanel staff were still being made to go into the store each day, despite it being closed, to run the online business which they could easily to from home.

The insider added: “About 15 people came down with Covid after the party and about 25 have come down with it since then.

“Chanel need to be shamed for the way they’ve treated staff. Chanel management just want to protect themselves and the party shows how blasé they are about the rules.

“Harrods is closed to the public but all Chanel staff have to come in to do online sales. This can be done from home. But is a luxury handbag really essential? Of course not. We’re not key workers.”

In one video, a boss tells the party: “We’re here because I was given a budget to have food and drink.”

It is claimed bosses sent WhatsApp messages urging secrecy after.

One said: “Please can I ask that NO ONE posts any pics from the drinks last night. It seems Harrods have contacted CHANEL.”

A spokesperson said: “We are aware an unofficial staff social gathering took place on December 18 in one of our boutiques in Harrods.

“Chanel has strict Covid protocols in place and takes issues of this nature extremely seriously.

“An investigation was immediately launched and appropriate follow up actions have and are being taken.”

A Harrods spokesperson said: “There was an unauthorised gathering within a concession, that went against the strict regulations Harrods has in place to protect all employees working in the store.

“When Harrods was made aware of the gathering it was dispersed immediately.”
