Nurse gained 3 stone during pregnancy binging on 20 McNuggets and burgers every day
A first-time mum whose pregnancy cravings for chicken McNuggets lead to her piling on three stone looks unrecognisable after shedding her baby weight.
Sophie Bonsell, 29, ended up tipping the scales at 17st 7lb after her insatiable pregnancy cravings saw her scoffing McDonald’s daily.
The Nottinghamshire nurse would put away a box of 20 nuggets every single day – often alongside extra burgers.
It was only when she gave birth to her son Johnny, now one year old, that her desire for nuggets vanished.
And she realised she needed to sort out her diet.
Now, just over a year on, not only has Sophie lost the baby weight, but she’s lost an additional three stone – meaning she can fit into a size 12.
Sophie, from Carlton, Nottingham, weighs 11 stone and says she is a ‘better mum’ to her active toddler as a result.
She said: “I look better now than I did before having a baby.
“I was overweight before I fell pregnant as I always opted for fast food during long days at work.
“I weighed 14st 6lbs and had no intentions of losing any weight whilst pregnant so I continued to eat the wrong things, and I told myself that cravings meant it was what the baby wanted.
“I craved salty foods so I’d excessively order at McDonald’s daily.
“I’d often say I was eating for two when ordering 20 chicken nuggets, a Big Mac meal with extra fries and a Filet-O-Fish.
“I would eat it all in one sitting with no regrets as I thought I’m already overweight, so why not?
“But when I had Johnny, I instantly knew I had to change.”
The extra pounds Sophie put on meant she dreaded people asking her if she was still pregnant even after she’d given birth, in February 2019.
So after welcoming Jonny into the world, she consumed her final McDonald’s breakfast and changed her diet.
Sophie said: “I didn’t want to look pregnant when he was six months old.
“My mindset completely changed from the moment I gave birth.
“I knew I had to lose weight for Johnny too as I was so unfit.
“Fortunately, my partner John Clarke is a personal trainer so he was able to motivate me and point me in the right direction.
“He did all the food shopping and meal prepping.
“I completely stopped snacking on junk and drove past McDonald’s without any hesitation.”
Sophie dropped three stone in just six weeks – without exercise.
She went on to work out five times per week and lost over three stone in seven months.
Sophie adds: “I was completely in the zone and so focused because I didn’t want to be uncomfortable in my own skin anymore.
“I used to put loads of makeup on for play groups as I felt insecure about my weight.
“But now I will wear active wear and stay fresh faced.
“I threw all my size 20 clothes out and replaced with a smaller wardrobe so I can’t go back.
“I always have energy which is needed with Jonny as he is so fast.
“I wouldn’t have been able to catch him if I had continued to eat fast food.
“We go on walks and to the park all the time whereas before I would have most likely opted for a film and food instead.”
