Man killed after pedestrian hit by vehicle in horror car crash in west London
A man has been killed after a vehicle hit a pedestrian in west London.
Emergency crews raced to the scene at Battersea Bridge shortly after 6pm.
The driver of the 4×4 involved in the accident stayed at the scene as paramedics performed CPR on the pedestrian.
Some reports say the man was a jogger, although this has not been confirmed by authorities, who are attempting to contact the man’s next of kin.
He is thought to have been crossing the road when he was struck by the black Range Rover.
Greg Hands, the Conservative MP for Chelsea and Fulham, tweeted: “Very bad news in Chelsea. Being told by police of a fatal road accident at junction Beaufort Street with Battersea Bridge just after 6pm tonight.
“Thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.
“More news as it comes in, but drivers would be advised to avoid the area.”
A Met police spokesman said: “Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service.
“A man was found seriously injured. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene a short time later.
“Enquiries are ongoing to trace next of kin.
“The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.”
Police said the bridge remains closed in both directions as they investigate.
