President meets with four ministers to discuss coronavirus state of play

 

With positive coronavirus cases on an alarming high in Cyprus, President Nicos Anastasiades meets on Tuesday with four ministers to decide what measures should be taken for approval before Cabinet on Friday.

It is almost certain that – despite earlier anticipations -no loosening of measures could be announced after Anastasiades and the health, labour, finance and education ministers re-evaluate the situation.

Health minister Constantinos Ioannou is expected to present the latest epidemiological data before decisions regarding new measures that could also include Christmas and the New Year are taken.

Ioannou has already warned that measures will either remain the same or be tightened and explained that initial plans for these to be partially lifted from December 14 until January 7 seem impossible.

This would only have been possible if the results were better, he also said before adding that the findings of a data assessment does not allow any relaxation.

The existing decrees are valid until Sunday, December 13, final decisions are expected to be announced before the weekend.
