House President Demetris Syllouris said on Wednesday he does not object to his parliamentary immunity being waived to accommodate a probe following the Al Jazeera broadcast centring on the Cyprus investment programme.

 

House President Demetris Syllouris said on Wednesday he does not object to his parliamentary immunity being waived to accommodate a probe following the Al Jazeera broadcast centring on the Cyprus investment programme.

Syllouris was filmed by undercover reporters appearing to offer assistance for as suspect investors to obtain a Cyprus passport.

On Tuesday he announced his abstention from his duties from next Monday onward, publicly apologising for the unpleasant image he conveyed to the people of Cyprus, among others, and the upheaval he has caused.

In a letter Wednesday to the Attorney General, Giorgos Savvides, Syllouris said he would not object to his parliamentary immunity to being waived by the Supreme Court in the light of an the investigation.
