Authorities in the north have picked up more than 300 irregular migrants who made their way there by sea since the beginning of the year, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Monday citing Yeni Duzen newspaper.

The most recent arrival was a group of 15 found hiding in wooded area near Kormakitis on Saturday. Earlier, police had located an abandoned speedboat between Kormakitis and Livera.

All 15 are men from Syria, aged between 16 and 38, the paper said.

It also gave a breakdown of irregular migrants arriving in the north since January as follows: 34 were picked up off Limnitis on January 14, 175 were found on the Neta-Lythrangomi beach on March 21,  13 were picked up off Akanthou on June 10, 30 were found in Syrianochori on July 9, another 13 in the Livera-Vasilia area on August 26, and 13 in Vasilia area on August 31.
