The two-state solution must be put on the table, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday, suggesting that a federal model could no longer apply.

Speaking at a joint news conference with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, Erdogan said new ideas concerning the solution model were needed.

“After all, at the moment there are two separate people who have founded two separate states,” Erdogan said.

The Turkish president said he would be visiting the north on November 15, on the anniversary of the unilateral declaration of independence by Turkish Cypriots to inaugurate a new hospital in Nicosia.

He also suggested having a picnic at Varosha, a fenced off town in Famagusta control by the Turkish army, which Turkey opened recently.
