Dad who shook 12-week-old son so violently it left him with cerebral palsy jailed
A father with a hatred for babies has been jailed for causing catastrophic brain injuries to his 12-week-old son.
The man, 29, made “strange and worrying” internet searches before shaking his child so violently he was left with severe cerebral palsy.
He searched: “Top 10 reasons why I hate my baby son”, “When a crying baby makes you so angry you might hurt them,” and “Do babies feel fear?”
Before the 2016 attack the man messaged a friend to say: “I despise babies – I want to smoosh them into the floor”.
His son, now five, will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, has to be fed through a tube and suffers up to 10 epileptic fits every day.
The man, from Carmarthenshire, who can’t be named, was found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He was jailed for ten years.
The boy’s mother told Swansea Crown Court: “My nightmare is he will one day ask me, through signing or technology, about his injuries.
“How can I explain to him that his father did it to him? How can someone attack a defenceless baby, especially when it is his own child.”
Judge Geraint Walters said the first time father’s attitude to parenthood could be gleaned from his internet searches.
He told him: “A child is vulnerable and has to be nurtured and protected not hurt like you did.”
