The extraordinary measures for the Larnaca district against the spread of coronavirus were on Tuesday extended for a week as it was announced there will be no school parades this year to mark the October 28 Ochi anniversary.

The measures in Larnaca, introduced on September 23 and due to have expired on Wednesday, will be extended until midnight October 14.

The ministry said the cases recorded during the past few days show that in many cases there has not been proper and strict observance of the measures and protocols, which led to the transmission of the virus in individuals’ families, social and professional environments.

Once again, it said, “there is need for diligent implementation of personal protection and social distancing measures.”

According to the decree, the maximum number of people at private gatherings cannot exceed 10, including children.

Churches, mosques and other religious sites must limit gatherings to 75 in accordance with other protocols in place such as wearing masks.

Sporting events must take place without spectators.

The maximum number of people allowed in restaurants is set at 75 indoors and 150 outdoors with social distancing of 3m² indoors and 2m² outdoors per person regardless of the size of the venue. No more than 10 people are allowed at each table.

The operation of cinemas, theatres and cinemas is allowed with a maximum number of 75 indoors and 150 outdoors.

Cocktail parties and congratulations at weddings and baptisms are prohibited. Only a physical presence at lunch or dinner is allowed, with a maximum of 350 people in attendance.

In the meantime, the education ministry announced that no school parades will take place this year on October 28 to mark the Ochi anniversary. This concerns all districts.
