Tributes have been paid to a 22-year-old British man who was stabbed to death on the Costa Blanca in Spain.

Ben Nesbitt, from Southport, Merseyside, suffered fatal knife wounds during the early hours of Thursday morning in Ciudad Quesada in the province of Alicante.

Mr Nesbitt was well-known in the Southport area and lived in Woodvale, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Spanish press reported that two British men got into an argument at a property in Ciudad Quesada before the fight spilled out onto the street.

During the altercation, Mr Nesbitt was fatally stabbed in the neck.

There is no suggestion Mr Nesbitt was at fault, and a manhunt is underway to find the attacker.

The incident is reported to have happened at around 3am on October 1.

One tribute read: “Remembering nothing but the best funny memories of you.

“Gone way way before your time was such a funny little character our space raider. Fly high brother.”

Another read: “I’m absolutely devastated because I know how much of a lovely boy u actually was.”

Guardia Civil, the Spanish police force, are searching for a black BMW 520D sports car, registration MW63 MPF, in connection with the incident.

The Olive Press reported that a fight broke out in Quesada during a house party.

Local police have said the victim was ‘stabbed in the neck’ after the brawl ‘spilled out onto the street’.

Ciudad Quesada is a popular tourist hotspot located approximately 8 kilometres inland from the Costa Blanca at Guardamar de la Segura.
